dizzy plays for small change, on the boardwalk in key west
livin’ rough and drinkin’ hard,, sometimes he plays just to forget
the night the misplaced cherry, from his days last cigarette
cursed him to live,, out all his days,, in charcoal silhouette….

And so the tourists take turns photographing themselves in cutouts of dizzy and file it away as one less goal reached

Just read your comment over at Anthony’s about politics and racism. Did you have time to read the post I did yesterday Paisley?

I love the rhythm and rhyme of this, and the phrase charcoal silhouette. Dizzy sounds like one of those old school blues musicians whose life inspires his lyrics and who has lived the depths of the sorrow in his riffs.

great picture and poem as usual. I might have said this about another of your poems but they remind me of Tom Waits who I think is a great American poet

I too read your comment at Anothony’s and have more faith than you

I spent my first two blogging years fighting the radical right. I’m here; they’re not–I couldn’t have moved to South Carolina if I hadn’t seen people changing in their beliefs

Nice take on the prompt. i like the ending. This brings memories of when I used to live right by the boardwalk and watched all the little shows.

How incredibly heartbreaking. You captured every nuance with so few words. Beautifully done.

You’ve captured this man in so few words.

You’ve just sent me back to my old rock days, strongly blues influenced. I’m sat there, after a gig, guitar in hand, the band and entourage losing themselves in a moody 12 bar riff.

I’ve seen a few Dizzys in my time. It is a skill to sum up a man so succinctly with so few words – you have done it marvellously. I’d like to hear more of Dizzy.

hi p… it’s a painful ride with a few notes inbetween… like the subtle riff from cherry to charcoal..

What a wonderful take on the words. Each line packed with color, imagery, and feeling.
