if you are here looking for poetry, it is currently being posted on my creative blog, just paisley....

When skin or organs are damaged, the body naturally wants to heal itself. Since the body cannot re-create healthy skin or tissue, it puts together new fibers that are not as functional as the original tissue, but that serve as a protective, useful barrier. When this barrier is completely healed, it is known as a scar.

as they lay there in
the blue white glow
of the back and white tv
she brushed his hair
back off his face
and listened to him breath
he was at peace now
her sleeping angel
no more anger
no more rage
her heart whispered-
“god, i love you…”
her face buried
in his so soft mane

as tears escaped in silence
from, her blue black
swollen eyes
and trickled ever
slowly past
that which makeup
would not hide
she stroked his chest
and longed to reach
inside,, and somehow mend
the scar tissue
that was once his heart-
long ago
and way back when….

I love the part when she longs to reach in his chest. There’s this ambivalence — this longing as wounding, as creating the very condition she wishes she could heal. The experienced heart as a protection against longing?

i like the way the story between this two is written through the images, the details, rather than through the piece directly saying it. “the scar tissue that was once his heart” — poignant.

This was so full of pain and your words put me in that moment. Powerful and moving!

When I was at my parents house this weekend, I was looking through old cardboard boxes and I found poetry that I had written in my teens….talk about teenage angst! It made me think of your site. Maybe I’ll share one with you and you can tell me what you think :)

This is a scary poem! There are so many relationships like that. I want to tell her to wise up and leave him before he hurts her again. But I also like how she knows he has been hurt himself and she wishes she could fix that. But still I say, “Run!”

Ah, woman, always wanting to heal what can’t be healed, at least
not when you are sleeping with the abuser, he’ll never respect that
    woman. Very sad.

this makes me so depress, why is she still with him? she can never mend what’s broken

(sigh) I can’t even comment. I have nothing to add to this perfectly worded peice.

You really do have a way with emotion, and you’re getting better and better at it……every time I come here I feel your poems, don’t just read them.

Try as I would, I have another picture in mind: a woman hurt beyond endurance returning from the kitchen: knife in hand.

Oh, to try and heal a heart such as that. Daunting and unlikely, yet impossible to resist the effort.

Hearts take so long to heal. But maybe not impossible.

I felt this first. And then I saw it. What skills you have, my dear.

Love can make you reach for the impossible and endure too much … you’ve really captured the way she makes herself believe it’s still worth while
